Unlike child vaccination awareness, adults in Pakistan are hardly aware of their needs to protect themselves. One of the commonest misconceptions is that since they were vaccinated in childhood, the adults are protected against all diseases.
Over the last two decades massive awareness campaigns on Hepatitis B vaccination have created a reasonable sized market that demands this vaccine. However vaccination against Flu, especially in patients prone to allergic conditions and asthma, vaccination against Hepatitis A and Typhoid in a country that is endemic for food and water borne transfer of these organisms, and vaccination against diseases like meningitis and pneumonia are demanded by few if any. On the contrary there is reasonable resistance to such vaccines in adults. One can understand the gravity of such resistance by noticing that fake vaccination record while travelling for Hajj and Umrah is considered a service the travel agent must provide and if not, the travel agent risks losing business.
The Medical Practice along with its partners in vaccine supply holds it as a mission to create vaccination awareness among adults. We believe that it is the primary duty of doctors to enable their patients to take educated and informed decisions for protecting their own health. The task is humungous but we have seen the result of our predecessors’ efforts in success of EPI and Hepatitis B and we are ready to carry on the mission.
At the Medical Practice we offer vaccination against a host of diseases including but not limited to Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, Meningitis, Pneumonia, Flu, Hemofilus Influenza B (HiB), Tetanus, Diphtheria, Measles, Mumps and Rubella.
We also offer vaccination of all students intending to travel abroad for their studies and provide them with documentary proof that would be considered valid at their Universities.
A recent addition to our arsenal of protection is the vaccine against Cervical Papiloma Virus, the infection to which is considered to be a predecessor to cervical cancer. Misnamed as the vaccine for cervical cancer, the vaccine only protects against several strains of Human Papiloma Virus thus reducing the risk of infection and hence the risk of Cervical Cancer – hence the misnomer.
